Cornerstone Wellness first opened its doors as a compassion-based, medical-quality cannabis dispensary aiming to provide Glendale residents with the holistic healing they needed to feel well. As the price of marijuana products and the taxes imposed on them have increased, many consumers that rely on marijuana for pain relief are sadly no longer able to afford it. Luckily, there are assistance programs in place that can help you if you can no longer afford your medical marijuana, including our own Cornerstone Cares Compassion Program.
Why Cannabis Can Be So Costly
With the passing of Proposition 64 in 2016, compassion programs across the state of California were shuttered and high tax rates were imposed on cannabis products. These high tax rates, which are still in place, are state-regulated and industry-wide, so individual marijuana dispensaries have no control over these rates. Luckily, SB 34—also known as the Dennis Peron & Brownie Mary Cannabis Compassion bill—was signed into law late last year by Governor Gavin Newsom. This bill has saved compassion programs across California, allowing weed dispensaries like ours to offer medicinal cannabis tax-free to low-income residents of Los Angeles.
What to Do if You Can’t Afford It
If you are struggling to afford your medical marijuana, you can apply for compassionate cannabis programs such as the Cornerstone Cares program. Enrollment in these types of programs will require you to have your medical marijuana card as well as proof of your low-income status. Cornerstone Wellness is a marijuana dispensary that strongly believes in the necessity of medical marijuana for those who need it, and therefore our weed shop has created its own compassionate care program for you, should you find yourself enduring financial hardship.
